3:04 pm - Help with FFF needed
|
Hi, the Fickle Finger of Fate site is due to be re/launched at the beginning of June. Trouble is, I need some content. Please would you take the time to drop me a question into the comment form, or ask your mates to do so, for 'What's my Fate' ? Thanks. Yes I know it's still looking pretty rough, your feedback is welcome. Especially if you know enough PHP to get my corners curving properly. xxx

6:23 pm - quick question
|
What's the best rss reader for windows? Or should I use a web-based one? Also- how do you solve the issue of rssing password-protected e.g. friends-only entries?
Currently I'm using Thunderbrowse, which is great, but I'm looking for a solution at my workplace.

10:09 pm - Playlist
|
I lost my DeeJay virginity tonight! Playlist is here
Managed to do an ethereal/world set for a goth nite without playing the Creatures, Coil or Kate Bush. Not that I dislike 'em. It' s just the challenge. But it is impossible to do it without playing something 4AD though.
It was fun! Three PVC children walked out in disgust claiming it was 'too experimental' while I was playing the Eurythmics... And I had one fan who beamed most of the way through and said thank you afterwards. I reckon that's a success, so I'll give people some warning next time I do it.
File is in a friends-only post.

Been away from LJ for ages- been horribly ill, spending my every free minute watching The Wire, and steeped in family stuff too. Also my Goatweb email seems to be unrecoverable- so please contact me here if you need my other email address.
But it's good to catch up on everybody's news- Happy Midsummer and all that. Still don't know what I'm up to for 6 weeks in the summer yet. Anyone know a house or goats that need sitting?

I hope you'll be able to come to my small party on Thursday. I've had a few people suggest that they bring along their own unwanted books too. Go ahead, let's rummage! I'll take the remainder to Barnardos at the weekend. You are welcome any time from 6pm. Hot pentagram buns will be served; bring other refreshments if you wish. See you there, or if not, Happy, Passionate Springing!

5:40 pm - cheer up luv!
|
Just discovered Ariel Levy. Seems promising, and she has written the best Dworkin Obit yet. Has anyone read her book? Anyway the site cheered me up after gritting my teeth this week, and having otherwise perfectly well-read and intelligent men come out with utter crap about feminism. Well they are entitled to have crap opinions I suppose, it's more the ignorance that bothers me. While the average educated male is happy to be vaguely informed about all kinds of influences on modern thought and culture, say, Buddhism, Anarchosyndicalism, French literature, opera, chaos magic, physics etc., why is it so taboo to have a clue about feminism?
Oh and I hear Angela Davis is speaking in London tomorrow. And it's free!
Am I right to yawn about 'neofeminist burlesque'?

Yes I've been quiet recently. Spent the whole of half-term redecorating the front room, putting up shelves and finally unpacking all my stuff that's been in the loft for nearly 2 years. It feels great to be home :)
As a result of this I have quite a few boxes of books and videos and things that are either not mine but I can't remember who's they are, or that I'm getting rid of to save space. I'm not talking about stuff thats securely stashed in the loft by arrangement- that'll still be stored up there.
Have you lent me something you'd like returned? Fancy refreshing your own collection?
The evening of 20th of March is my excuse for a little party: a date or deadline for you to claim or retrieve the stuff before I send it all to Dr Barnardos. And trash my new living room of course. Children very welcome if swaddled.
If you can't make it by then and there's and item you want to retrieve, then of course give me a call and I'll put it aside.

9:39 pm - Belated Greetings of the Season
|
Looks like my text 2 lj got lost in the mix. Back from sunny Murcia now. How did we manage to overlook the fact that it was Carnival out there? Our quiet escape from it all turned out a bit WickerMan in parts (Aguilas) and a bit like a Bournemouth bustop in others ( Mar Menor). I must pluck up the courage or company to drive for my next journey- it's so frustrating seeing all the lovely landscape but being hemmed in by the bus networks. Best moment- a glass of 1866 Brandy.

If you are feeling perverse enough to take the plunge I would now, finally, recommend the latest Kubuntu (Linux). This is the first time for me that any distro has worked straight out of the box, including adding skype and picking up my email profile without shedding a single tear or folder rule. It has recognised my other partitions, and not induced weeks of hateful command line permission changes. I think I might faint.
More fun for most ljers is probably library thing - or are you all already using it? Random bookcrossing is all very well but... Do join- especially if you're a common interest group of people, or a shop- yes you treadwells !
Things I would like for Xmas are an iTouch and the Asus EeePC
I have also accidently downloaded an entire series of this: Darker than Black. Which I'm told is rather good.
Goodnight for now. More goat pics coming soon.

As you know I've been mostly deprived of up-to-date technology for a couple of years now. But now I have Moonbeam (dual boot Samsung R70. Just gorgeous.) I'm ready to leap back in. Firstly social stuff- which IM or internet phone are you on these days? Skype? Is anyone using Jabber, or good old icq anymore? What about Gizmo?
Secondly- what else have I missed? Bear in mind I've only now got the hardware to watch youtube: I'm way behind. Is it worth looking at secondlife? I absolutely refuse MySpace and just rss stuff from there to here if I absolutely have to. Any other good social and file sharing sites? Fun software?
